Deadline to Upgrade

There is no maximum time of registration for Full Status registered languages, but the interpreter must successfully renew their registration each year (Annual Registration).

Interpreters not listed at Full Status will be given a date by which to upgrade.

Interim status

  • Three years (by obtaining either the DPSI, Metropolitan Police Test or equivalent public service interpreting qualification) if accepted onto the Register by option b.
  • Five years (by obtaining more than 400 hours of public service interpreting) if accepted onto the Register by option a.

Registered interpreters whose language of registration is at Interim status and is about to expire and who do not meet the criterion for Full status will be notified that their language listing(s) will be lapsed from the Register. Such interpreters cannot then re-apply for admission at interim status in that language at a later date and therefore, can only apply for full status when they are able to satisfy the criterion for full status.

Please refer to the Criteria for Entry (PDF, 95kb) for further details.

Deadline to upgrade additional languages

Interpreters will be given a date by which time to upgrade each language.

Please note that the Limited Assessment category will cease to exist after December 2008 therefore those interpreters registered under the Limited Assessment Category who have failed to upgrade their status by this deadline will be automatically removed from the register. IMPORTANT Please note that there will be no extensions to upgrade deadlines for the Limited Assessment category beyond December 2008 for any reason.
