Deadline to Upgrade
There is no maximum time of registration for Full Status registered languages, but the interpreter must successfully renew their registration each year (Annual Registration).

Interpreters not listed at Full Status will be given a date by which to upgrade.

Interim status

  • Three years (by obtaining either the DPSI, Metropolitan Police Test or equivalent public service interpreting qualification) if accepted onto the Register by option b.
  • Five years (by obtaining more than 400 hours of public service interpreting) if accepted onto the Register by option a.

Registered interpreters whose language of registration is at Interim status and is about to expire and who do not meet the criterion for Full status will be notified that their language listing(s) will be lapsed from the Register. Such interpreters cannot then re-apply for admission at interim status in that language at a later date and therefore, can only apply for full status when they are able to satisfy the criterion for full status.

Interpreters will be given a date by which time to upgrade each language.

Upgrading for Rare Language and Limited Assessment Categories

Limited Assessment:

  • The Limited Assessment category is coming to an end. New Applications under the Limited Assessment category are no longer accepted. All Interpreters currently listed under Limited Assessment category must upgrade by the deadlines they have been given. All Limited Assessment Interpreters who have not upgraded to Full Status by December 2008 will be removed from the register.

Rare Language:

  • Annual Review (by obtaining a full PSI qualification either the DPSI, Metropolitan Police Test or equivalent public service interpreting qualification - hours will be reviewed also).
